Family Ties

A much needed kind of love.

Following the Holy Month of Ramadan, the celebration of Eid Al Fitr welcomes a time to slow down, spend time with our close and extended families and embrace the festive spirit of the holiday. A jovial mood is contagious throughout the celebration with nostalgic smells of fragrant food being cooked for family get-togethers; meanwhile everyone is dressed in their newest clothing and precious jewels.

This is the most beautiful aspect of Eid celebrations – the warmth and togetherness as families gather. It’s during this time that we are most appreciative of our families and the connections we share. Gathering together with those we love reminds us of how blessed we are. It is this festive mood that inspires and drives us to reach out to those who are less fortunate than us to be generous and share the things that we have that they may not such as clothing and an abundance of food, it pushes us to become more forgiving with those who have wronged us and even more so caring to those whom we love, and who love us.

However, it’s hard to not to wonder why it is only during special occasions that our generosity grows stronger and we open our hearts to those in which we may have turned away from or ignored. Perhaps it is that we have allowed ourselves to become so enthralled in our own lives, busy with what is in front of us, that we forget to look up from our phones and look around, and be ever so grateful for all that we have – our loving and caring families and our supportive friends.

“Home is people. Not a place. If you go back there after the people are gone, then all you can see is what is not there any more.”

– Robin Hood

As you settle in to celebrate this Eid Al Fitr holiday, we would like to remind you to slow down, soak in your surroundings and look at your loved ones who are there by your side. At the end of the day, this is what life is all about – family. May you keep your family ties strong, may you remain ever so generous to those who are in need, and may you have a blessed Eid Al Fitr.

Eid Mubarak,
